Scratches are those deep marks that extend down to the inner paint surfaces of your car and hence expose the metal and lower layers of the paint on your car. Unlike swirl marks, scratches are deep and usually visible to the naked eye.
Causes Of Swirl Marks And Scratches
Swirl marks are tiny scratches on the surface of your car that don’t go too deep into the paint layers and hence are usually not seen without effort. Usually, these are caused by wiping your car with a rough or coarse cloth. A dusty cloth can cause some serious damage to your car’s paint. So, improper and bad washing or drying techniques are generally responsible for causing swirl marks. Some of these include :
- Using a buffing machine with an incompatible or damaged pad.
- Not using a microfiber cloth on your car & wiping dust off a dry surface.
- Those automatic car washing machines can cause these marks as well if they are not maintained properly.
- Using polishing and compounding chemicals that are too harsh for the surface.
- Drying your car without cleaning it thoroughly.
Seeing any scratches and chips on your cars is very annoying. There are a variety of reasons that can cause scratches on your car. Like a rock or debris hitting it while you are driving or rubbing a hard thing against the surface. Here are some common and annoying causes of car scratches:

- Sometimes, intentional damage is also behind those big bad-looking scratches on the car.
